The Sports Unlimited Principles Pat Maloney and Steve Sauve have a long successful history in the business of sporting equipment. In 1971 Pat’s parents opened up a 3800 square foot franchise called “Sportsworld” a local community based sports store. Pat’s participation evolved from part time in 1971 to full time in 1975. In 1974 the Sportsworld franchise was disbanded in favor of forming and becoming part of a larger buying group where stores also operated in Peterborough, Burlington and Ancaster under the name “Sports Unlimited”. The Brampton location moved next door to a 12,500 square foot facility.
The advent of the 1990’s saw the beginning of a severe economic recession combined with an explosion of the “Big Box” sporting goods retail stores. In order to compete Sports Unlimited changed their model by joining the Sports Distribution Group of Canada to decrease buying and other costs while increasing access to inventory.
In 1996 Pat decided that competing with the larger stores was a challenge that detracted from the very nature of the original smaller community store that provided excellent personal service. At that time Pat pro actively remodeled his business plan to refocus on the core values of quality personal service and products and an excellent reputation. Steve Sauve, the premier service manager from D & I Sports Inc. joined Pat as an employee and partner.
Since 1996 Pat and Steve and their passion for the athletes who play the sports has been the driving force for Sports Unlimited where they focus on serving the Brampton and surrounding Communities.
The philosophy has been to deliver expert service, repairs and quality products at competitive prices to its’ athletic customers. There lines include Hockey, Baseball, Lacrosse, Inline and Team Sales and League Programs. A Georgetown location to serve Georgetown, Acton and the surrounding areas was opened in 2006.
